Thousands of gifts were collected during the sixth edition of the Rigal Bi Mħabba (Gift with Love) initiative, aimed at ensuring that vulnerable children receive a present at Christmas.

The gifts were displayed in the courtyard of the Auberge de Castille, where the initiative was marked by a brief event. The Prime Minister's wife Lydia Abela, accompanied by her daughter Giorgia Mae, thanked all those who contributed, emphasising the importance of collective effort in supporting children who may be facing difficult circumstances.

PM Robert Abela was also present. Addressing those gathered, Abela noted that year after year the initiative continues to attract the active participation of families, voluntary organisations, local councils and private companies. She said that this broad involvement has helped the initiative grow and reach communities across the country, often through new ideas and forms of engagement.

Reference was also made to Rigal Bi Mħabba b'Differenza, a complementary initiative focused on animal welfare, which originated in collaboration with Jake Vella and which this year was extended to Gozo.

Abela said the initiative serves as a reminder of the impact that generosity and solidarity can have when people come together, adding that work will now continue to ensure the donated gifts are distributed to children before Christmas Day.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri described Rigal Bi Mħabba as a clear example of how solidarity can make a tangible difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children. He highlighted the involvement of the disciplined forces, saying their participation reflects a commitment that goes beyond security duties to include social responsibility and community support.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli also praised the initiative, commending the strong participation of local councils. She said such initiatives help strengthen communities and consistently demonstrate the generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan people.
