Two artists. Two distinct styles. Two different ways of seeing the world - brought together by a shared love of art, nature, landscape and the sea.
Between land and sea is the first duo exhibition bringing together Silvana Camilleri Tabone and Audrey Mercieca, two friends whose artistic journeys have crossed through workshops, exhibitions and their shared passion for painting.
The story of this exhibition began on 1 May, when the two artists met for a plein air painting session at the beautiful Mġarr ix-Xini. Each artist captured the landscape in her own distinctive way. Their paintings and the inspiration born from that day will now come together in this special exhibition.
The idea for this exhibition came from Dr Rosanna Ciliberti, who noticed the artists' plein air work through their posts and saw the potential in bringing their different artistic approaches together.
Two artists, two perspectives
Mercieca is a full-time artist with a particular passion for oil painting and plein air work. Well known for painting throughout Malta and Gozo, Audrey has a deep love for nature, which is clearly reflected in her work.
Alongside her love of landscapes Audrey loves portraiture and human figure. She has studied sculpture, painting and design both at the Malta school of arts and The Florence Academy. Her work has been presented in both solo and collective exhibitions and she took part in collective exhibitions abroad. Audrey painted the feast banners for Ghasri and was given Gieh l-Ghasri. Later she was given recognition related to art work by the Luqa local council.
Camilleri Tabone, while not a full-time artist, has always taken her artistic practice seriously. Her journey with art began at a very young age and has continued through years of study and participation in workshops. She has exhibited in both solo and collective exhibitions, including exhibitions alongside Audrey.
Silvana shares Audrey's love for landscapes and seascapes, but her approach is different. As a passionate photographer, she often begins her creative process by capturing the places and moments that inspire her through photography. She then develops these images into paintings within the intimacy of her own studio. For Silvana, photography becomes a way of collecting memories and impressions which can later be transformed through paint.
Although their styles and working methods differ, the two artists understand each other's creative processes. Having attended workshops together and exhibited together in the past, they have developed a natural understanding of how they work.
A journey from land to sea
Preparing this exhibition within a relatively short period required both artists to make sacrifices, dedicate their time and put their full concentration into the project. They carefully balanced their different approaches while ensuring that the quality of the work remained at its highest.
Between land and sea is therefore more than simply a collection of paintings. It is a meeting of two artistic voices - two friends who look at the same world through different eyes and translate what they see into their own visual language.
The exhibition invites visitors and art lovers to step into these two perspectives and discover what each artist has captured, experienced and transformed into art.
This is the first exhibition of its kind for Silvana and Audrey as a duo, and both artists warmly invite the public to come and experience their work.
