The Embassy of Romania together with the Honorary Consulate of Romania in Malta is holding a recital by the ConTempo String Quartet on the occasion of Europe Day. The one-hour recital will be held on 8 May at 7.30pm at the Gemini Amphitheatre and Exhibition Hall at Le Meridien St Julians. A reception will follow the recital.

The ConTempo String Quartet, made up of Bogdan Sofei – first violin, Ingrid Nicola – second violin, Andreea Banciu – viola, and Adrian Mantu – cello, has become one of the most celebrated young string quartets performing today. Formed in 1995 by students at the Music University in Bucharest, Romania, the ConTempo String Quartet have toured the world extensively and have won a record of 13 international prizes (London, Rome, Munich, Graz, Berlin, Prague, Hamburg, and Cluj).

In 1999, the quartet was invited to perform a concert for the late Pope John Paul II at Castel Gandolfo in Italy. In 2001 and 2002, they played for Prince Charles in UK (the second concert at Highrove); in 2003 they were invited to perform for Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa and EU Ministers and in 2005, they performed for Hollywood actors Angelica Houston, Angela Lansbury and Martin Sheen.

Romanians living in Malta may collect their free invitation by calling Ms Diane Degabriele on tel.: 2123-2111.
